What is the My Career tool?
My Career is a career navigation tool that helps students and job seekers identify optimal careers, training, and jobs based on your skills, experience, and interests. It also provides a smart resume and cover letter tool to help you showcase your experience and align your resume to desired jobs to land more interviews.
My Career combines four powerful input surveys to help you explore and personalize your career path. It uses a Match Engine that takes your survey responses to calculate and list your career matches (My Career Matches). You can then learn more about those matches and find what interests you most.
The four surveys are:
- Career Cluster Survey
- PAIRIN Skills Survey
- Work History
- Education History
After completing one or more surveys, the Match Engine provides you with your top career matches (My Career Matches) to help you explore and choose the right path for you. You can explore the listed career matches to learn more about that career field, expected growth rates, an estimated annual salary, and the education, skills, and/or credentials needed. Matches are sorted in order of highest to lowest match and organized in the following categories: Top Matches, Great Matches, Good Matches, Ok Matches, and Low Matches.
How do I find My Career Matches?
To start finding your career matches, the best place to start is an Outcome called Find a career I will love. If you have already completed this Outcome, you've already begun using My Career.
To navigate directly to My Career from the left side bar navigation instead of from an Outcome, follow these steps:
1. Click “My Career” in the left side bar navigation
2. Click “Start Survey” to take the Career Cluster Survey.
-
- The Career Cluster Survey asks you to select the activities you like, your personal qualities, and school subjects you like.
- This survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
3. After taking the Career Cluster Survey, next take the PAIRIN Skills Survey by clicking “Take Survey” in that box.
-
- This survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
- You don’t need to take every survey to see career matches, but the more you take, the more refined your matches will be to your skills, experience, and interests.
4. Next, add your Education History and Work History.
